Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney missed DC United's defeat to New England Revolution due to illness. Rooney is understood to have been watching from home as his side chucked away a one-goal lead to lose late on against the Revolution.
Former Liverpool and Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke gave Rooney's side the advantage just before half time with a well taken close range effort.
Despite scoring deep into the first half, DC were not able to push home the advantage in the second half. Gustavo Bou equalised for New England shortly after the hour mark to change the complexion of the contest. The 17-year-old scored a fortunate deflected effort to silence the home fans and send New England to the top of the Eastern Conference.
