Water rescue teams and helicopter scrambled in search for man in Irlam Locks

Rescue teams and a helicopter were scrambled to Irlam on Thursday night (December 5) following reports of a man in the water.

Police, paramedics and fire crews could be seen lining Cadishead Way, close to Irlam Locks, part of the Manchester Ship Canal on Thursday evening.

Videos from the scene showed a number of ambulances in attendance, along with police and fire engines. Boats could also be seen out on the canal with teams using torches to search the water. The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called to a person rescue in the canal at around 8.40pm. Multiple resources were sent to the scene amid the rescue mission.
