TV star and East Kilbride's very own Lorraine Kelly has heaped praise on litter pickers in the town in a video thanking them for their outstanding efforts.

East Kilbride Community Litter Pickers was formed last March and has seen volunteers from across the town collect thousands of bags of rubbish with more than 1500 members.And a recent initiative - the 5x5 pledge - which saw the group calling on 50 East Kilbride residents to collect one bag of litter a week for five weeks, starting on January 10, has seen an overwhelming response.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

In the video Lorraine, who attended Claremont High, said: "Hi, it's Lorraine here and I want to thank everybody taking part in the 5x5 pledge for the East Kilbride Community Litter Pickers all the very best."You're fantastic and thank you so much for all your hard work and for cleaning up East Kilbride.....I really just wish people would have more respect for where they live.
