A waste disposal centre was evacuated on Tuesday evening (June 18) with bomb disposal units called to the scene. Emergency services, including police and Explosive Ordnance Disposal units (EOD) descended on the site off Longley Lane, in Gatley, at around 5.20pm.

The area was taped off for a number of hours, with people on site evacuated amid reports of a suspected grenade being found. It was later deemed to be safe and was disposed of. Amid the incident, a witness posted on social media: "I was there at the time they closed it all off and told everyone to leave due to explosive being found.

From what the chap said it was some form of ammunition." Another said police had 'taped the area off' and that a police van was blocking the entrance to stop people entering the site, before the scene was later stood down.
