WASPI women could be due over £10,000 in State Pension age compensation this year

The final report from the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) into ‘injustice caused by the maladministration’ of changes to the State Pension age, is due to be published this year.

More than 500 women boring in the 1950s who made a formal complaint to the Ombudsman - the PHSO stopped accepting new complaints - along with relevant parties including the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and MPs representing constituents, were sent the draft findings of the final two stages (injustice and remedy) of the report at the end of November/early December.

The final report will not be published until the PHSO has reviewed feedback from all parties involved. However, it recently confirmed that any recommendations, including financial remedy, will be applied to “everyone who has been similarly affected” by the failings it identifies - not just the women who made a complaint - which could mean a compensation payout of £10,000 or more.

Earlier this week, SNP MP Alan Brown proposed a new Bill to give “fair and fast compensation” to the estimated 3.8 million WASPI Women (Women Against State Pension Inequality Campaign) born in the 1950s who have been affected by the change in retirement age.
