Voters in Cheshire have gone to the polls for the Warrington 2024 local elections. Eighteen seats were contested in the wards Appleton, Birchwood, Burtonwood and Westbrook, Croft, Cuerdley, Culcheth and Glazebury, Grappenhall and Thelwall, Great Sankey, Hatton, Lymm, Penketh, Poulton-with-Fearnheard, Rixton-with-Glazebrook, Stockton Heath, Stretton, Walton, Winwick and Woolston.
Ahead of the election, Warrington Council was run by Labour who had 36 seats out of 58. They have controlled the council since 2011. More than 2,500 council seats were up for grabs across 107 local authorities in England. Mayoral elections took place in East Midland, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, North East, South Yorkshire, West Midlands, West Yorkshire, York and North Yorkshire, London and Salford.
There were also police and crime commissioner elections across England and Wales - but not in Greater Manchester, London, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.
