Warning to people heading to the Lake District amid rising temperatures

Visitors to the Lake District are being urged to take precautions in the heat as people flock to waterside locations during the heatwave.

The national park authority has warned people to take particular care when swimming and out walking. People heading to the Lake District may try to make the most of the sunny weather but with temperatures expected to reach the mid-30s in the next couple of days, walking on the fells can pose a risk to your health.

People are urged to plan their routes in advance, bring plenty of water with them and wear sunscreen and layers of clothes. Even seasoned walkers are advised to plan ahead and make sure they have the correct skills and equipment to deal with the weather.

Those who are planning on swimming in the lakes have also been advised to stay safe.
