The public has been warned to be vigilant about scams surrounding the upcoming emergency alert test this week. On Sunday, April 23, at 3pm, everyone who has a compatible UK mobile will get a test alert on their phone as the government trials its new emergency alert system.
It is intended to be used in life-threatening situations including flooding and wildfires, but the alert this week will only be a test.
People don't need to download any additional software for the emergency alert to work and they can opt out of the warning in their phone's settings.
