Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Walter Smith insists it was an "easy decision" for current Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard to tell his players a mid-season jaunt to Dubai was out of the question.
The league leaders are staying at home this season, foregoing a trip to the Emirati city for a warm weather training camp that usually takes place in the winter break.
There is no break in the Covid constrained 2020-21 season but rivals Celtic still flew out to the Middle East hours after their 1-0 derby defeat to Gerrard's men on Saturday.
Rangers have faltered after the break in the previous two seasons, with many fans pinning the blame for a New Year collapse on the trips abroad.
