Decades later and things are a far cry from those humble beginnings when a staff member would be summoned to the main entrance to take people's money - a shilling for adults and sixpence for children.

As the attraction celebrates its 90th anniversary this week, the Manchester Evening News has taken a look back at some of the highlights of the zoo over the years and how it's become the leading conservation charity it is today.
