Vision for Ayr travel hub shown in online council survey as demolished Station Hotel wing airbrushed

Stunning visual drawings have shown how Ayr's new transport hub could look.Council chiefs have unveiled their plans for the site at Ayr station, which will create a transport interchange including a bus station and mobility hub.The plans are currently part of an online public consultation as part of the Ayr Town Centre Strategic Framework, which council chiefs hope can be delivered over the next 11 years.And residents have got until Friday to share their views of the plans which would completely transform the area.Proposals have completely airbrushed the south wing of the Station Hotel, with a green open space and the start of a footbridge there instead.

The footbridge crosses over the station before winding down to Station Road - where the new bus station has been mooted.Ayr railway station still has a familiar look with the Station Road side platform building still intact.

The iconic canopies over the station platforms can also be seen on the proposals.And it appears that the northern section of the Station Hotel still remains as part of plans.The Project Scope proposal reads: "Create a new Transport Interchange co-located at the Ayr Railway Station providing a fully upgraded Rail Station, Bus Station and Mobility Hub. "This would link with the Accessible Ayr Project to provide high quality Active Travel (walking, cycling and wheeling)measures and opportunity to develop Park & Ride /Town Centre parking provision off Station Road."Another viewpoint in the proposals show the transformation of Burns Statue Square, with the footbridge also pictured.
