Essentially a two-hander, Luke Paradise’s screenplay provides its leads with plenty of opportunity for histrionics; only a credible context and conviction are lacking. RLJE Films opens this just-passable diversion in limited U.S. theaters this Friday, July 28.

This year’s Streamys, produced by Dick Clark Productions and Tubefilter will take place Sunday, Aug. 27, starting at 6 p.m. PT live on the Streamy Awards’ YouTube channel and social accounts. The 2023 ceremony will be hosted by MatPat, creator of the Game Theorists, whose channels have in aggregate more than 36 million subscribers. “Hosting the Streamy Awards is like getting to throw a party for people I admire and whose content I love, and I’m thrilled to emcee an event that means so much in the community,” MatPat said in a statement.

TikTok’s new text posts have a 1,000-character limit. Users can customize their text posts by adding a sound (such as song snippets), tagging a location, enabling comments and allowing Duets, among other features. Unlike Twitter or Threads, on TikTok, text-based posts aren’t designed to facilitate a conversation — TikTok posts still function more like Instagram posts, which followers may be able to comment on but that’s not the main point.

Both awards will be handed out at this year’s second-ever Children’s & Family Emmys. “Historically, puppetry performers would enter in the live action performer categories,” said NATAS CEO Adam Sharp, in announcing the new competition. “So, if you were the handler of a puppet, then you would go up against a lead actor or lead actress, and that created for some odd pairings. But managing a puppet is a very different kind of performance than a regular live action performance.”

Budgeted around $80 million and directed by Jeremy Zag, “Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir” ranks as one of France’s most ambitious animated films to date. Featuring eight original songs, a queer storyline and a postcard-worthy Parisian backdrop, the musical film broke ground as the first female-powered superhero movie set in the French capital. Even as it faces stiff competition from “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” “Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir” has enough legs to match or surpass recent non-U.S. animated hits such as “Ballerina,” which sold 1.8 million tickets in France. It garnered 318,144 admissions on its opening day in theaters, a record for a French animated film. In Germany, the movie sold 586,148 tickets in three weeks and is currently the leading family title at the box office.

Javon “Wanna” Walton has signed with Most Valuable Promotions, the boxing promotion company co-founded by Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian. MVP will work with Walton on brand building, content creation and event marketing as he finishes his amateur career, with his professional debut set for 2024. His first appearance with MVP will take place on Aug. 2 in Dallas, where he will participate in the open workouts as part of the Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz fight week. Along with his role in “Euphoria,” Walton is known for playing Stan in “The Umbrella Academy” on Netflix, with other credits including Amazon Prime Video’s “Utopia” and the upcoming Hulu series “Under the Bridge.” In a 2022 interview with Variety, he said that it was his boxing career that led him to acting — after an appearance on Steve Harvey’s talk show where he discussed boxing, he was scouted by legendary casting director Jennifer Venditti, who was then working on “Euphoria.”

The first three episodes of “Gen V” are set to premiere on September 29 with subsequent episodes airing weekly through November 3. In the new trailer, violence, terror and hormones cover nearly every inch of Godolkin as Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and her fellow classmates work to harness their powers and enjoy the normal thrill of university life, all while heeding daunting warnings: “There are dangerous, evil people at that school,” someone says in the trailer.
