A "violent" 16-year-old with special needs, who has refused to go to school for over a year, is "rotting away in his bedroom", his parents fear.Chris Ward said his teenage son Tyler decided he no longer wanted to attend in in early 2021, and he and his wife have since been begging for help from the special needs school.Tyler, who has autism, would attend classes intermittently and only go to school to join outdoor activities in the afternoon, missing out on academic lessons in the morning, reports the Mirror.
In September 2022, he was due to start his a new educational programme as he turned 16. However, he went to Piper Hill School, in Wythenshawe, Manchester, for three hours and has not been back since. His family claimed a staff member from the school visited their home in September 2021 to help get Tyler to attend.
They said the staff member helped Tyler to get dressed and he agreed to go to school with her "within minutes".Tyler subsequently began attending for around three hours a day, however his attendance began to drop off again when the help stopped.Chris, 51, said that despite begging for help, they have received no support from the school, except for the one visit from the teacher. The worried dad said: "Tyler is very demanding, obsessive, controlling and ritualistic.
He has to be in control all the time and can get violent if he doesn't get his own way."He's getting more violent and more frustrated.
