A Scots prisoner serving over four years for slashing a fellow inmate from mouth to ear has been found with another homemade weapon behind bars.
Fergus Muldoon has had another four months added to his sentence after he admitted using part of a vape and cutlery to fashion a knife in Perth Prison.
Fiscal depute Michael Sweeney told Perth Sheriff Court: "Prison officers entered his cell to carry out a routine search.A homemade weapon was found concealed within his folded laundry."There was a piece of plastic Scottish Prison Service cutlery with the casing of a vape at one end, and the plastic had been sharpened to a point."Sheriff Mark Stewart jailed him for four months and said: "You are well aware of the court's attitude towards the use of improvised weapons in prison."It is not only prevalent, but is a very dangerous and troublesome part of prison life.
All too often improvised weapons are used to cause significant, and sometimes fatal, injuries."The weapon was there and had no purpose except to injure.
