Viola Davis has led tributes to Little Richard after the Tutti Frutti star sadly died aged 82. Little Richard was known as one of the earliest pioneers of rock ‘n’ roll, and was often referred to as its ‘founding father’.

Actress Viola honoured the late star by writing on Twitter: ‘RIP Little Richard, 87. The Originator. The innovator. The musician, performer who influenced generations of artists….has left.

You were AWESOME #LittleRichard!!! ‘Your talent will reverberate forever. Well done sir. Rest well.’ And she’s not the only star to be honouring the legendary musician, with Bette Midler writing: ‘#LittleRichard was a genius, pure and simple.
