When Victoria Wood died six years ago today, few knew that the comic genius had been suffering from terminal cancer - and that was just the way she wanted it.
It later transpired that the 62-year-old Lancashire-born star had been diagnosed with the disease four years earlier, with her authorised biography, Let’s Do It, revealing how she quit directing BBC’s Loving Miss Hatto for a year of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and ops on a malignant lymph node and cancer in the 'tummy area'.
