Val Kilmer's passing at 65, just three years after his last film appearance, has left fans, friends, and Hollywood co-stars devastated.
His family announced that he died on Tuesday after a bout of pneumonia. This followed a long battle with throat cancer, which began with his diagnosis in 2014.
Although he eventually received the 'all clear', Val's cancer treatment left his voice irreparably damaged. However, that didn't prevent him from reuniting with Tom Cruise in the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, which became his final onscreen role before his death.
In the film, he once again played the iconic role of fighter pilot Iceman. The movie's script drew inspiration from Val's real life, with Iceman also battling cancer and relying on typing to communicate. Thanks to AI technology, Kilmer's voice was brought back to life on the big screen, utilising hours of archival footage featuring his voice, which he had provided to Sonantic, reports the Mirror.
