Using sweeteners when pregnant could mean you are putting yourself and your baby at risk, according to a new study. Babies are more likely to suffer from obesity if mothers consume artificial sweeteners when with child.

This is because the sugar alternative can alter gut bacteria, scientists at the University of Calgary in Canada have warned.

Despite many using sweeteners as a healthier option because of their low calories compared to sugar, they may not be as good for you as you assume.

Sweeteners such as aspartame or stevia are not toxic for adults but can have unexpected consequences for pregnant women - reports Wales Online.
