Usher Recalls a Time When He Acted as Beyonce's Nanny in The Early Days of Their Careers

Usher opened up about some of his earliest memories with Beyonce. The 44-year-old “OMG” hitmaker is only three years older than the Renaissance star.

However, in a recent interview he recalled a time when he acted as her “nanny” or “chaperone” at the very beginning of her career. Read more about Usher’s relationship with Beyonce… Beyonce was supporting Usher all the way back in 2007, but their relationship in the industry can be traced back a lot further in time. “Fun fact: I knew Beyonce when she was 12 years old, 11 years old,” he explained while on the the Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp radio show, via EW.

That was before she was even a member of Destiny’s Child. He continued, saying, “She used to be in a group by the name of the Dolls.

I don’t know if I could consider myself their babysitter, but I actually had a time where I had to watch the Dolls.” As it turns out, that was when the group was working with Daryl Simmons, a songwriter and producer with multiple hits to his name. “[Simmons] was working with [the Dolls] at the time, and I just happened to be over there and they were working on a session,” he recalled. “I kind of found my way into being their, like, I don’t know, chaperone, nanny, or something like that, because I was kinda the oldest person in the room.” Their relationship changed a lot of the years. Beyonce actually featured Usher in the music video for her 2003 smash single “Naughty Girl,” and they’ve performed together onstage.
