Since debuting on our screens, ITV’s new crime drama Until I Kill You has got viewers at home gripped. Based on the book Living With A Serial Killer, the series depicts the story of Delia Balmer, who survived an attack by her ex-partner, murderer John Sweeney.

Starring Anna Maxwell Martin as Delia, an agency nurse, the four-episode drama sees Delia meet John (played by actor Shaun Evans) and embark on a near fatal relationship in the 1990s.

Now in prison, John is currently serving multiple life sentences for the attempted murder of Delia as well as the murders of Melissa Halstead and Paula Fields.

John, who is now in his 60s, was born in Kirkdale in Liverpool in the 1950s. During the mid-1980s, John, who trained as a carpenter and joiner, moved to London where he met Melissa Halstead before following her to Vienna and Amsterdam.Tragically in 1990, 33 year old Melissa’s remains were found in Westersingel canal near Rotterdam.
