A body has been discovered in the River Mersey. Police were called to Howley Lane, Warrington, to reports of a body in the water at 11.25am on Sunday.
The body was retrieved from the stretch of the river, close to Victoria Park, by firefighters using a boat. CheshireLive reports that the identity of the deceased is not yet known.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Constabulary said: "At 11.25am on Sunday 17 March, officers were called to reports of a body in the river Mersey near Howley Lane, Warrington.
Officers attended the scene along with Cheshire Fire and Rescue service who retrieved the body from the river. "At this time, officers are working to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances of their death." Four fire engines raced to Howley Lane following the discovery.
