Citing what he called “serious and credible allegations” into President Joe Biden’s conduct regarding the business dealings of his son Hunter, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced he is directing House committees “to open a formal impeachment inquiry.” On Twitter, he posted the following statement: “I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
Over the past several months, House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct—a culture of corruption.” The House Oversight Committee has been investigating whether President Biden benefited from his son’s business dealings, but has yet to put forth hard evidence of a direct connection.
There have also been allegations that the Justice Department slow-walked the investigation into Hunter Biden’s financial entanglements.
White House spokesman Ian Sams responded on Twitter, “House Republicans have been investigating the President for 9 months, and they’ve turned up no evidence of wrongdoing His [sic] own GOP members have said so He [sic] vowed to hold a vote to open impeachment, now he flip flopped because he doesn’t have support.
