The 'extreme freeze' gripping the UK will finally end next week with signs of spring on the horizon. National Severe Weather Warnings for snow and ice are in force for parts of the UK for the rest of this week and further warnings are possible.
But the Met Office has said the cold weather and a continuing risk of snow will grip the UK for the rest of the week before milder air gradually spreads in from the west.
London will move from 1C on Saturday to 11C on Monday. York will see a rise over the same days from 1C to a much milder 9C. In Cornwall, a 7C temperature on Saturday will rise to 12C by the start of the week.
