The Met Office has named Storm Francis as the UK braces for life-threatening 70mph winds and almost 4ins of rain in the wake of Ellen.

Forecasters have issued severe weather warnings for most of the UK ahead of the storm which threatens to cut power to homes and disrupt travel.

Flying debris and huge waves are expected to pose a danger to life. It comes just days after Ellen claimed lives as it battered the UK and Ireland with winds of almost 90mph that uprooted trees, damaged buildings and caused dangerous sea conditions.

In preparation for Francis, the Met Office has issued yellow warnings for strong winds and heavy rain which will be in effect Tuesday and Wednesday.
