Locked down Britain is facing a battering today with the Met Office warning of 75mph gale force winds and lightning in parts - while others will be hit with rain showers.
The weekend is due to bring a mini heatwave of 20C but before that parts of the country will see a flurry of more severe weather.
Forecaster Aidan McGivern said Thursday will see a "less frosty start" compared to yesterday in the south but in northern parts of Scotland "things turn colder".
A "strengthening wind" that is likely to turn gale force around the coasts could cause severe damage in the Shetland Islands as it reaches 75mph - said Mr McGivern.
