UK weather: Arctic blast hits with 70mph gales and snow as temperatures plummet to -3C

Forecasters have warned of sub zero temperatures and ferocious gales in some regions as 'winter returns' for an 'unusually cold' day in April.

The Met Office is predicting lows of -3C in some northern areas this morning as the Artic air returns for a second time this week.

A yellow warning for snow and ice is also in force with warnings of slippery road surfaces in the northern half of mainland Scotland, until 10am on Friday.
