UK holidaymakers in the Canary Islands have been warned of “very strong” winds this weekend. Weather alerts have been issued for the western islands by Aemet, Spain’s national weather agency.
An amber warning is in place for El Hierro for Saturday December 14 and Sunday December 15, which could experience gusts of up to 90km/h from the south and south east.
High areas and mountain peaks are likely to be the worst affected. La Gomera, La Palma and Tenerife are all under yellow weather alerts for wind for Saturday, December 14.
Gusts of up to 70km/h are forecast for all three.
