Passengers travelling at Christmas have been warned of ‘red flag’ items in their luggage and cabin bags which could breach strict security rules, leading to delays or belongings being confiscated.

Millions of people will be flying during the festive period either to visit family or to go on holiday. At Manchester Airport alone, over 1.1million people are expected to pass through the airport over the period between December 20 to January 3.

Many passengers will be carrying festive items like Christmas crackers, or gifts from friends and family. But these items could get you caught out at airport security, for example if they don’t comply with the 100ml liquid rule or breach customs laws.

Adam Oakley, a storage expert from Door to Store, has issued a warning to travellers to be careful with what they pack as they could bring something that’s a “red flag” at security checkpoints.
