The cheapest UK supermarket has officially been named, with major supermarkets including Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons missing out on the title.New research has found that popular budget retailer Aldi is offering shoppers the lowest prices based on a basket of essential household goods.
Trade magazine The Grocer found that the discounted German grocer beat the 'Big Four' supermarkets - Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons - in a recent price comparison of 33 items.
Aldi came out on top with a total of £51.35, while premium supermarket Waitrose was found to cost a whopping £78.26 for the exact same items, The Mirror reported.
The news comes as supermarkets across the country bid to attract shoppers by offering lower prices amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis.
