People in the UK 'relaxed too much' about the threat of coronavirus over the summer, England’s deputy chief medical officer has warned.
Professor Jonathan Van-Tam has said people need to start taking Covid-19 'seriously again' - or face a 'bumpy ride' ahead. He expressed 'great concern' over the recent steep rise in the number of new cases across the country.
Another 2,948 positive tests were confirmed in the UK yesterday, following the 2,988 reported on Sunday – the largest daily figure since May.
The rise in cases is yet to lead to a reflected rise in hospitalisations but there is normally a delay in correlation between the two.
