An ‘extreme risk’ weather alert has been issued for Majorca today (Thursday August 15) as heavy rain and storms are set to batter the island.
It comes after Spain’s national weather agency Aemet issued a special advisory notice this week as storms swept eastern mainland Spain and the Balearics.
Meteorologists have now raised the risk level of heavy rain in Majorca from amber (‘important risk’) to red (‘extreme risk’) as the island could see 2cm of rainfall in the space of four to five hours.
The red warning has been issued for the north and northeast of the island, which includes Pollensa and Arta. The warning came into force at midnight today (Thursday, August 15) and is set to last until 3pm.
