A Tyndrum fish and chip shop owner has been making waves in Norway, a longstanding supplier of sustainable cod and haddock to the UK, as part of a trip of a lifetime. The Real Food Cafe was recently revealed as one of the top fish and chip shops in the UK at the 2023 National Fish & Chip Awards, headlined by Seafood from Norway. To further mark its success after battering stiff competition to take home the coveted From Field to Frier Award, founder and co-owner, Sarah Heward, was invited on the educational study trip to visit the western shores of Norway.Joined by eight other category award winners representing the best of the best in British fish and chips, Sarah visited the port city of Ålesund to discover the facts surrounding one of the largest cod stocks in the world.
As a fellow ocean nation, Norway is a proud supplier of sustainable seafood to British consumers, with a long-standing relationship providing a bounty of cod and haddock for the national dish.Sarah said: “The National Fish and Chip Awards are very important for us to enter for a number of reasons.
Firstly, it’s a very good discipline to go through, as the awards are quite rigorous, which means as a business, you have to really have your house in order.
It encourages us to keep on our toes.“Entering, being shortlisted and winning is a fantastic morale boost for the staff and validates that what we’re doing is right.
