Two new risk factors for dementia discovered in study

Dementia is a syndrome linked to the progressive decline of the brain most commonly seen in people over the age of 65. It can cause memory problems, behavioural changes and even mobility issues.

Although the risk of dementia does rise as you age, this is not the only pre-determining factor.Actually, research has shown that 40 per cent of dementia cases could be prevented by making certain lifestyle changes.

These include factors such as limiting alcohol intake, exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy weight.But now a new study has discovered two more factors that could significantly raise your risk - with millions of Britons vulnerable.

Scientists identified both untreated vision loss and high cholesterol as risk factors for dementia.The updated Lancet Commission on dementia prevention, intervention, and care also found that nearly half of cases of dementia worldwide may be attributed to such risk factors.
