Two men arrested in Manchester over Texas synagogue siege released without charge

Two men arrested in Manchester in connection with a siege at a synagogue in Texas have been released without charge. They were held by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North West on January 26 in connection with the attack at in Colleyville on Saturday, January 15.

The first man was released without charge the following day, while the second has been released today. Malik Faisal Akram, 44, from Blackburn, held four hostages at the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue. In a statement on Monday morning Counter Terrorism Policing North West said: "Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North West are continuing to support US authorities with their investigation into the incident in Texas. "As part of the local investigation, one man arrested in Manchester on Wednesday, January 26, was released on Thursday, January 27. "The second male arrested in Manchester on Wednesday, January 26, has today been released from police custody." In total five people in Manchester have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A sixth man, from Birmingham, has also been arrested as part of the investigation. Two teenagers arrested in south Manchester the day after the incident were also released without charge.
