Two Lanarkshire branches of Carpetright are to shut up shop despite a rescue deal by rival flooring retailer Tapi.More than 1500 staff at Carpetright are to lose their jobs nationwide with East Kilbride and Uddingston stores included in the 'hit list'.It emerged more than a week ago that the retailer was on the brink of administration.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Carpetright employed more than 1800 staff before entering into insolvency. It also had 273 shops across the country. The boss of the retailer's parent firm says he is "truly sorry" more jobs could not be saved under the deal.In a statement on Monday, PwC said that administrators were working with affected employees to ensure they receive the payments they are entitled to as soon as possible.Zelf Jussain, joint administrator at PwC, said: "The sale of some stores and the brand to Tapi has allowed over 300 jobs to be saved, and gives the Carpetright brand the chance to continue and flourish under its new ownership," he said.
