Two children were rescued from the hard shoulder of a motorway by a police officer after their drunk granddad was found face down in a bush.
Off-duty PCSO Aaron Sparrow-Woods saw a young child standing by a car parked on the hard shoulder of the A1(M), near Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, as he drove home from Ferryhill Police Station last year.
When he pulled over, he was shocked to find the distressed child’s grandfather face down on the grass verge. A second young child was also in the back of the vehicle, Chronicle Live reports.
The 65-year-old granddad was too drunk to stand and Aaron stayed with the children, aged five and three, until on-duty officers arrived.
