Two arrested after police lead on 100mph chase by 'suspicious' Volkswagen

Two men have been arrested after a 100mph police chase on the M60. Traffic officers on patrol in Prestwich first spotted a 'suspicious' Volkswagen joining the motorway at around 11.50pm on Wednesday.

A pursuit ensued due to the 'high speed' of the car. Speeds of more than 100mph were reached, police said. Bricks, catalytic converters and a trolley jack were thrown from the car at the undercover police vehicle. Two were detained after being chased by officers. Two men, aged 26 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.

Both remain in custody for questioning. Inspector Jon Shilvock, of GMP’s Roads Policing Unit, said: "It was a high-risk job, the impact of the incident put members of the public at risk and the actions of the officers, with the support of National Police Air Service, allowed us to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion.
