Turkey holiday tourists are being charged £43 for kebabs and £62 if they want to use a private beach. A shocked customer shared a picture of their Bodrum beach bar receipt on social media which showed that they also had been charged £7.30 for a small coffee and £22 for some pitta bread.

At the nearby Maçakızı Hotel non-guests are asked to spend a minimum of £62 against food, drink and activities at the private hotel to be able to use the beach.

The minimum spend was already in place before the pandemic. Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Aras defended local charges saying that the businesses were just trying to survive after the coronavirus pandemic.
