A Bury man married his sweetheart just days before he tragically passed away, following a two-and-a-half year stay in hospital.

Zachary McNally, known as Zac, sadly died on April 15 in Manchester Royal Infirmary. He was only 28 years old. Two days earlier, he had been able to marry his fiancée, Amy, after he had proposed to her by holding up a sign from his hospital window.

Zac was surrounded by his family when he passed away, step-mum Karen Stringer said. Ms Stringer went on to pay a moving tribute to Zac.

She said: “He was just a larger than life character that everyone is going to miss. He had hundreds of friends we are expecting to come to the funeral.” READ MORE: Tesco in hot water over 'dreadful' price difference if you have a Clubcard Zac — who was known as Zac Mac in Manchester United-supporting circles — was only 25 when he was diagnosed with leukaemia in autumn 2019.
