The Secret: A Treasure Hunt.”Each key can be exchanged with Preiss’s estate for a valuable gemstone. Followers of “The Secret” widely believe that one of the clues featuring an image of a woman in a white gown floating above topaz gems directs readers to a treasure hidden in New York City.
Hager and others have noted that the woman’s face strongly resembles that of the Statue of Liberty. But, Hager, a former science teacher who now owns a college-planning service, believes he has figured out the exact whereabouts and knows things other do not. “Everybody thinks it is in Brooklyn because that is where the author grew up,” he said.
He noted that the third-from-last line in the clue is “In rhapsodic man’s soil.” That would seem to reference Gershwin, but Hager believes it to be a red herring. “It’s in there to throw people off,” he said.
While he’s hesitant to reveal exactly where he thinks the treasure is, he will say that he believes it to be “south of Liberty Island” because one line in the clue reads, “Or gaze north / Toward the isle of B.'”Liberty Island, Hager explained, used to be called Bedloe Island.
