Three big-name high street retailers who are closing down stores before Christmas

The rising cost of living and the surge in online shopping have hit high streets hard over recent years, forcing many retailers to shut up shop.

Last year saw almost 10,500 shops close their doors for good, according to data from the Centre for Retail Research.Three retailers, Dobbies, Ann Summers, and The Original Factory Shop, are now set to close several UK sites in the coming weeks.

In the first half of 2024, nearly 7,000 shops from various chains permanently closed their doors on the high street, in shopping centres or retail parks, PwC analysis reveals.This equates to 38 daily shop closures, an increase from 36 per day in 2023.

However, there has been a slight rise in store openings, with the number increasing from 24 to 25 per day, reports the Manchester Evening News.
