Officers have made three arrests during their crackdown on carjackings in Prestwich and Salford. As part of their new operation, police say they are investigating six incidents - three carjackings and three attempted carjackings - that have occurred since December in the Broughton area.
One man aged 18 was arrested on 8 January on suspicion of robbery and he has since been bailed pending further enquiries. Two carjacked vehicles and another linked to robbery offences have been recovered as part of the operation with numerous weapons and knives recovered from the vehicles.
Operation Chaffinch was launched to tackle the spate of carjackings that rocked a Salford neighbourhood. Last month, residents in the Broughton Park community spoke of the 'fear' after masked men armed with 'knives, machetes and axes' were targeting vehicles in the area.
