Threave Rovers were in seventh heaven after picking up their first win of the season. They hammered Irvine Victoria 7-0 at Meadow Park on Saturday, putting the previous week’s disappointing draw with Thorn Athletic behind them.

Gaffer Danny Dunglinson said: “To get that first win on the board was vital. “Drawing was a disappointment and if you don’t win on Saturday you start getting desperate for the win and people start getting anxious. “It was 3-0 at half-time but we probably weren’t at our best. “Maybe we’re asking a bit too much perfection from the boys but they’re all good enough players and probably playing at a level below where they should be. “Maybe they got a bit complacent at times and it can be a wee bit easy for them, they try the hard things when they don’t really need to, so we just simplified it and got the best out of them in the second half. “We asked them at half-time to push on a bit and start doing the things they were really good at. “In the second half they were excellent.

It could have been eight, nine or 10 if we’d taken the chances we had.” Aiden Kerr put Threave in front after just four minutes, the same player doubling the lead after a quarter of an hour.

Lewis Downie’s lob ensured Threave went in three goals to the good at the break. Kerr completed his hat-trick early in the second half, Ross Irving then bagging a brace either side of another goal from Downie.
