Peter Murphy welcomed his first derby win as Queen of the South manager but insisted the best is yet to come.South surged to a 2-0 win over Annan but Murphy pointed to his lengthy injury list and said: “ I don’t think we are anywhere near out best and still have a few players to come back from injury and a couple of players more to come in so it should be good signs for the fans.”Goals in each half from captain Matty Douglas and Kieran McKechnie clinched the triumph.Murphy said: “The first goal was a set piece and I thought it was excellent as we work on set pieces.“When we inherited Jack Brydon I found out he had a torpedo of a throw-in and it is something we can use as it is almost like a corner.“And to score in the manner we did with Matty was excellent, towering over Tommy Goss, which I was delighted to see.“The second goal came after our substitutions and Annan were tiring and Kieran had a carbon copy of his chance last week, and it was a great finish which was excellent to see.“However, there is still plenty to work on.“I was delighted to get a few back and our substitutes bench looked a bit healthier, but we unfortunately lost another player, Zander Craik, in the warm-up.“He came to us with a right thigh injury and he had a shot and pulled his right thigh and it sounded like it might be a bad one.
We will have to wait and see.“As for the win, I am delighted and I thought we were strong, fit and battled really well.“My gripe with the players last week against Cove was that we allowed them to dictate the game because they overloaded us.”Meanwhile, Murphy told how he is still looking to sign players before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.He said: “When we have two or three injuries we look light.
