Thousands of Celtic fans take over Glasgow for title party celebrations

Thousands of Celtic fans have taken over the Trongate in Glasgow city-centre to celebrate winning the Scottish Premiership.The Hoops beat St Mirren 3-2 at Celtic Park today, Saturday, May 18, in front of their adoring fans and were given the league trophy afterwards.A late Luis Palma winner sent the crowd into raptures as Celtic finished eight points ahead of nearest rivals Rangers.Swarms of supporters have gathered in the east end of the city, closing off roads to traffic as they party on the streets.A large police presence is currently monitoring the celebrations.

Images from the scene show fans decked out in green and white and waving flags and basking in the sunshine. A cloud of green smoke hovered above the area as fans let off pyrotechnics.Jubilant supporters could be seen clambering on top of the historic Merchant building on the Trongate and scaling traffic lights as they celebrated with crowds.

Other pictures showed bus stop roofs straining as punters climbed on top - after footage from last year's party showed two Hoops fans falling through one.One man was pictured kissing a mannequin, while another started a game of football in the swarm.
