This Morning star Sian Welby has opened up about how "heartbreaking" it is that her dad will soon no longer recognise her as his dementia progresses.

The Capital FM star and regular This Morning contributor joined her ITV daytime co-stars on Thursday to invite viewers into her family home to share her dad's story. ‌Sian, who was seen in the specially recorded film she's created to show the effects of dementia on her dad and the rest of her family, relived some musical memories with her 84-year-old father.The TV star, who was also joined by her mother and sister in the special film, got emotional at the thought of becoming a "stranger" to her beloved father, but added that she's trying to "embrace this new version of him." Sian, who went down a storm recently when she presented This Morning alongside Dermot O’Leary, went on to open up about the sadness the presenter and her family have lived with over the past few years.

It comes just weeks after she starred on the show to discuss a revolutionary new blood test that can detect Alzheimer's disease during its early stages.

Sian, who previously revealed on-air that her father Ian is battling vascular dementia, said: "The devastating thing about Alzheimer's is how it's one of the cruellest diseases because you're losing their personality and will eventually become strangers.
