Friday morning's episode of This Morning (October 6) got political as Dermot O’Leary grilled Rishi Sunak over Suella Braverman's immigration speech at the Tory Party conference.

During the conference, the Home Secretary, "warned of a 'hurricane of mass migration'". She then told delegates how she would do whatever it takes 'to stop small boat crossings,' insisting that immigration was 'already too high.' After the Prime Minister was invited onto the ITV daytime show, Dermot grilled him over Suella’s comments, alongside his Friday co-host Alison Hammond. The former X Factor host remarked: "I want to talk about immigration and multiculturalism because this is something me and Alison care about, we're both children of immigrants, as are you. "So, when you hear your Home Secretary talk about the 'hurricane of mass migration', are you not embarrassed and ashamed when you hear words like that? "It's the first time I've met you, you seem like a decent guy through us; it's evidence that multiculturalism does work, so do you not scratch your head when you hear things like that?" Rishi replied: "I think this debate gets charged a lot with people focusing on things, so let's take a step back.

What do I think we all agree on? We all agree that Britain is an incredibly welcoming place, we're all living proof of the fact that immigrants can come here and do well, and that is something we do better than any other country in the world." Alison then interjected, asking: "So we definitely haven't failed in any way, I would suggest," to which Rishi continued: "No, I think this is something we should be so proud of as Brits, it's something we do better than anyone else.
