This Morning's resident agony aunt Deidre Sanders has said she feels "so lucky" to have had her breast cancer diagnosis early enough to have it treated as she prepares for surgery this weekend.
Deidre, 77, has reassured many callers over the years, but today (September 27) she was there to discuss her own health having been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Speaking to presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about what led her to visit a doctor, Deidre said: "I was just achy and I'm really glad I was because I phoned my GP.They saw me that day." Deidre revealed she'll be having a lumpectomy this weekend and "providing it hasn't spread to the healthy tissue, that should be that." She added: "I feel really lucky it's been caught early." Deidre revealed her routine mammogram was missed saying: "I'm 77 and I happened to be amongst a group of women who got missed for a mammogram when you're 70.
I looked online and thought I'm too old to need one now. That was a big mistake." She added: "I want to say, you've got a right to request a mammogram so please request it.
