A thief who stole nearly £18k from his sick grandfather to splash out on UberEats and gaming has been jailed. Joshua McLean was entrusted to take home the injured man's belongings after he was taken into intensive care from a serious road accident back in December 2017.

But instead McLean used the opportunity to steal his Barclay's bank card and splurge on take out to "make himself feel better".

By the time his grandfather, Declan Alford, was transferred to a brain rehabilitation centre, McLean had spent £17,874 of his money and £2,800 in cash he had found at his flat.

The 33-year-old, who was raised by his grandparents, claimed he had spent the money on utility bills and food during his first police interview.
