Kim Kardashian is speaking out in defense of Lyle and Erik Menendez. The brothers were convicted in 1996 of murdering their parents Jose and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez in the late ’80s.

They had claimed they killed them in self-defense following years of physical and sexual abuse, but during a second trial, a judge deemed the abuse allegations inadmissible.

They were ultimately given life sentences. The case was thrust back into the spotlight recently, thanks in large part to Ryan Murphy‘s controversial new Netflix series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

And surprisingly that attention is making a big difference! Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced earlier this week that his office is reviewing new evidence in the case!
